From the supplier: Professor William F. Baxter, along with Paul H. Cootner and Kenneth E. Scott, predicted in a book published in 1983 that competitive networks of point of sale terminals would develop and that credit and debit cards were likely to replace cash and checks for most consumer purchases. Assessment of these forecasts showed that legal barriers have limited competitive networks and that credit card use, but not debit card use, did not grow as predicted.
